Haunted Subway

I am happy to report that ridiculous Halloween celebrations are not limited to the streets of Madison, Wisconsin. Foreigners in Beijing have invented a massive tradition of all gathering at a subway station to celebrate Halloween by all dressing in costume, blasting music, and cramming onto a subway to ride the entire line dancing the whole way. It seemed like squishing onto a subway car with westerners in Batman and Robin costumes was a mockery of how extremely overcrowded the subways actually are in day-to-day life.

While Halloween is definitely not as commercialized in Beijing and I really did miss stuffing myself with Twix and peanut butter cups, I enjoyed dressing up with friends. Gangnam Style was alive and well as we danced the night away to Psy’s phenomenon.

Happy (belated) Halloween!
